East of Abancay lies Lake Pacucha, one of the largest and loveliest bodies of water in the region, which can be visited by crossing five riverside villages. Be aware that your country's tourists Foreign Office may have issued official advise against visiting the area east of Ayacucho and north of Abancay, due to the presence of armed groups. The town of Abancay is also to be avoided: don't linger there.
