The very winding and sometimes rather narrow road requires that motorists exercise great caution, especially when driving between L'Estréchure and the Col d'Asclier – a pass that is usually blocked by snow from December to March. This route takes you across the geological phenomenon that is a Cévennes "barre" and from the Gardon valley into the Hérault valley, at the foot of Mt Aigoual.
