The origins of this castle date back to the 11C, but its current appearance came about mainly in the 16C and 17C, when it was converted by the bishops of Salzburg, who used it as a military base, residence, hunting lodge and prison. To the front of the fortress, there is an educational trail that focuses on birds of prey, and birds such as buzzards, ospreys and kites give flying demonstrations.
